Pray the Scriptures, May 10
Psalm 77
Sovereign Lord,
I worship you this day as a God whose ways are holy. No god is as great as you. The waters see you and are afraid, and the deep trembles. The clouds pour down water, the skies give forth thunder, and your arrows flash on every side. The crash of your thunder is in the whirlwind, and your lightning lights up the world; the earth trembles and shakes.
We know that your path leads through the sea, your way through the great waters, even though we cannot see your footprints. Please lead us like a flock in times of danger. I pray that you will not forget to be gracious to us, or withhold your compassion from us in anger. May we continue to believe that your steadfast love has not ceased and that your promises are not at an end.
I pray for ______________________ as well as for myself, for those times when we are in distress, and too troubled to speak, and our spirit grows faint. May we choose to cry out to you to hear us and help us in the day of our trouble. I pray that we will remember songs in the night and stretch out our hands to you without wearying; may our souls refuse to be comforted until you come to our aid. I pray that we will appeal to the years of the right hand of the Most High, and wait for you to do for us what you have done for your people in the past.
You are the God who works wonders and makes known your might among the peoples. With your arm, you have redeemed your people. I choose to remember your deeds, and remember your wonders of old, to ponder all your work and meditate on all your mighty deeds, that my faith might be strengthened.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
