Pray the Scriptures, March 13

Genesis 32:3-32

Lord God,

As Jacob did, ______________________ and I may one day have to face someone we have wronged in the past. I pray that you will grant us a spirit of humility toward those we have sinned against, and I pray that through your intervention we may find favor in the eyes of those we have offended. I pray that you will show us how to make peace with any adversaries from our past, that we may be received by them.

I pray that any fear and distress we experience as these sins from the past face us will drive us to our knees to pray to you as the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac. May we see ourselves as unworthy of all the kindness and faithfulness you have shown to us. I pray that you will save our families and us, even from the consequences of our own sinful behavior. In your grace, keep every promise you have made to us, and cause us to prosper.

May we wrestle with you and overcome, as Jacob did, by clinging to you, even in our own weakness, until we receive a blessing from you. Please bless us and enable us to see you face to face. I also pray that we will carry with us some permanent reminder of our own weakness, so that we may be inclined not to trust in ourselves but in you as the one whose strength is made perfect in our weakness.
