Pray the Scriptures, June 26
Nehemiah 9:1-21
Sovereign Lord God,
We bless your glorious name and exalt it above all blessing and praise. You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You gave life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you. You are the Lord God.
We take heart when we reflect on your grace and faithfulness. You chose Abraham and gave to his descendants the land of Canaan. You saw the suffering of the Israelites in Egypt and heard their cry. You sent signs and wonders against Pharaoh, and divided the sea before them. You led them by day and by night, gave them regulations and laws that are just, and gave them manna for food and water for their thirst.
In the name of Jesus, I pray for myself and for ______________________ , that you will do for us what you did for them. I thank you for choosing us as you chose Abraham. May our hearts be found faithful to you, and may you keep your covenant promises to us because you are righteous. Please see our suffering and hear our cry. Make a name for yourself that will endure.
We freely confess that we, as a people, have sinned against you. We have acted presumptuously and stiffened our necks and have refused to obey your commandments. We have forgotten the wonders that you have performed among us. Please forgive us and set us as a people on a path of righteousness and obedience.
Please lead us and give us light on the way we are to take. We affirm that your Word is truth, and that your laws are just and right and good. Keep us from becoming arrogant and stiff-necked, from refusing to listen to you or obey your commands. I thank you that you are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. In your great compassion, please do not abandon us when we sin against you. Give us your good Spirit to instruct us, and sustain us so that we lack nothing. We ask you not to cease guiding us or shining your light on the way we are to take.
I pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
