Pray the Scriptures, June 18

Nehemiah 1

Lord God,

We worship you this day as the God of heaven. You are a great and awesome God, who keeps your covenant of love with those who love you and obey your commands. You have redeemed us by your great strength and your mighty hand.

Move ______________________ and me to pray for our city and our nation in those places where we are in great trouble and disgrace, where our walls of moral protection are broken down. I pray that we will mourn, fast, and pray before you, the God of heaven, on behalf of our land.

Let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear our prayers, the prayers of your servants, who delight in revering your name. May we pray day and night for our land, and for those we love who are in great need. Please show us what you want us to do to restore our families, our cities, and our nation, and grant us favor in the presence of others as we set out to do it.

I confess the sins we, as a people, have committed against you. We have acted very wickedly toward you, and have not obeyed the commands, decrees, and laws you have given to us. I plead with you to renew a right spirit in us, that we may return to you and obey you so that you may gather us and bless us.

These things we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
